Hamilcar Barca

Hamilcar led Carthaginian forces during the First Punic War (264–241 BCE) and was known for his skillful leadership. Despite his valiant efforts, Carthage lost the war and was forced to accept harsh peace terms from Rome.

Following the war, Carthage faced a mercenary revolt. After successfully putting down the rebellion, Hamilcar focused on building a new Carthaginian empire in Spain. He spent nine years expanding Carthaginian territory and resources to compensate for the losses against Rome.
