During the Second Punic War, the infantry in the Punic (Carthaginian) army was a diverse and multiethnic force composed of various subject and allied peoples, as well as a small core of Carthaginian citizens. While Hannibal's famous cavalry often receives more attention, his infantry were the backbone of his army, adapted from Hellenistic traditions and equipped with spoils of war.
