Roman Noble Cavalry

In the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War, Roman cavalry was primarily drawn from the equites, or equestrian order, a social and military class of wealthy citizens.

Traditionally, the equites were responsible for cavalry service within the Roman legions.

Roman cavalrymen typically wore helmets (Corinthian style), bronze chest plates, and bronze greaves.

Their weaponry included a lance (lancea), a long sword (spatha), and a short throwing spear.

They carried a small round shield (parma equestris).
